Editor,
Definition of TIF: Property Tax Dollars captured/set aside by Community Leaders to fund Special Projects within said community.
A State of Maine document dated Sept. 6,2013 shows that the former Biddeford City Manager requested and was authorized to capture/set aside $15 million property tax dollars for a parking facility, should the City decide to build one.
A fair/important question that Biddeford taxpayers should be asking their city councilors, “What happens to the $15 million property tax dollars, should the city council vote/decide not to build the parking facility/garage
City officials have often reminded us of “what a lousy job we have been doing for the last 20/30 years maintaining our infrastructure, for example, Clock Tower $2 million, Community Center $5 million, JFK School $7 to $10 million, streets/roads etc. This is where the $15 million should be spent.
