WISCASSET — Wiscasset’s famous eatery opened for the 81st year Monday and hungry folks were already lined up for lunch.
Often the line at Red’s Eats winds down Route 1 and the wait may be more than an hour. It doesn’t matter, customers will wait.

“They give you what you pay for,” said Jerry Case of Pittston. “A whole bunch of lobster meat and not a lot of mixings with it.”

Case visits Red’s Eats and average of five times a week with one of his three dogs, who take turns. The dogs — two Great Danes and a wolfhound — get a Hot dog and ice cream for dessert.
“They’ve got it all,” he said, between the seafood, burgers and onion rings. Monday, he opted for a grilled BLT with bacon.
Cameron Dillon of Boston enjoyed his first meal from Red’s Eats Monday, having decided to stop on the way home from visiting family in Rockland.
After taking the first bite of his lobster roll, “So good,” he said. “Juicy. Perfect.”
