Jane Mary Pomerleau, age 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on March 4, 2019, in Long Beach, CA from a prolonged illness.
Jane was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Jesse Allen Sr. and Charlotte Allen, of Bath, Maine on October 12, 1936. She grew up in Bath, and attended Morse High School, where she was on the cheerleader squad.
Jane married her one true love, Joseph Bernard Pomerleau in1958, in Bath, Maine. Joseph’s job took the couple and young son Gregg to Hartford, Connecticut for several years. In 1962, Jane and Joe decided to take a big risk and chase their dreams. They packed up the Ford Country Squire Station Wagon with their son Gregg, along with all their worldly possessions and drove to Southern California. Their first home was in Inglewood, CA, where their second son Dwayne was born in 1963. In 1974, the family moved to Long Beach, CA. which was they’re permanent residence.
Jane was a loving, devoted, comforting, nurturing and supportive wife and mother. She was actively involved with both of her son’s education and held senior level roles with the PTA (Parent Teacher Association), where her sons attended school. To support & encourage both of her son’s interest in education, and to achieve her own personal goal, Jane attended night school at Long Beach City College to complete her high school education and received her diploma with honors in 1976.
She loved cooking and had an extensive library of recipes. Jane and Joe also really enjoyed entertaining in their home. They hosted what was called: “Friday Night / Game Night”. There are so many fond memories of playing an assortment of card games as well as different family games with neighbors and friends. It was a weekly tradition that lasted many years.
Travel was another passion that Jane and Joe enjoyed together. They visited many parts of the country and collected Christmas tree ornaments from each and every place they traveled to.
Jane & Joe really loved to visit Las Vegas for vacations and for over twenty years, it became an annual pilgrimage for the two of them. For many years, they drove the distance in the family car and then eventually decided to start taking the short 45 minute flight from Long Beach to Las Vegas. Either way, they always enjoyed bringing their friends along, to share in the fun of the city.
After her beloved husband and best friend of 53 years, Joe passed away in 2011; Jane remained in the home that she and Joe shared. She continued to live her life to the fullest.
Her youngest son, Dwayne shared a strong mother / son bond with her. For years, they spent many quality hours together, going out for dinners and to the movies, attended plays, musicals, went to family gatherings and neighborhood parties. They also enjoyed taking walks with her little dog Mia, in the park.
Jane is predeceased by her husband, Joe, her parents, Jesse Sr. and mother Charlotte, and her older brother Jesse. She is survived by her brother Billy (William), two sons, Gregg and Dwayne, and three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Last notes of endearment: A Service for Jane is scheduled in April. It was her wishes to have her ashes scattered at sea and her wishes will be honored. This will be followed by a celebration of her life with family and friends, hosted by her son Dwayne.
