BIDDEFORD — Marshall Archer, Post Commander at the AMVETS Club located at 147 Alfred St., is pleased to report to the community that a special “Laughs for Vets” comedy night fundraiser was held at the club on March 9. All of the ticket sale proceeds will go directly to benefit veterans at the VA Medical Center in Togus.
Well-known Maine comedian, George Hamm, hosted the show. The comedy night also featured several area comics who volunteered their time for this special benefit event. Their comedy was a big hit for the audience at this sold out show.
Hamm, a veteran himself having served in the Marine Corps, is a member at the AMVETS. He was born in Portland and began performing locally over 20 years ago. He soon established himself as one of the premier comics in the state. His career has taken him from the Comedy Connection in Portland to performing all across the country at venues in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York.
Now living in Biddeford, Hamm graciously agreed to donate his time and talent to raise money for a cause that he takes special interest in: assisting with the needs of patients in the mental health unit at the VA hospital.
Robin Delage was the principal organizer of the show and was assisted by Mike Daigle. Their time and effort contributed greatly to the success of the event. Post Manager Lionel Lamontagne is considering the possibility of scheduling another similar show in the future.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
