Seniors to meet

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, at the Community Center, 426 Bridge St. Singer Jimmy James will entertain.

The seniors are considering three trips. They are a one-day outing on July 7 to Cabbage Island off the Maine coast; an eight-day, seven-night motor trip to Branson, Missouri, in September; and an excursion to view fall foliage in New Hampshire in October.

Unsolved murder discussion

Mark Swett, a Westbrook resident and member of the Westbrook Historical Society, will share some of his research into the unsolved 1987 murder of Alice Hawkes when the historical society meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. The program is titled “Who killed Alice Hawkes?”

Tips for Charity tally

The Tips for Charity luncheon during the 18th annual Festival of Trees in December raised $1,385 in ticket sales, $784 in donations; and $3,927.26 in jar tips, luncheon organizer Roberta Morrill reported.

“We are donating $6,000 to the Westbrook Food Pantry,” Morrill said in a January letter.

Since the first festival in 2001, $77,000 has been donated to charities in Westbrook.
