Muscle Shoals, AL – Kendall Ray Yard, 56, surrounded by his children, and in the presence of his Lord, left us too soon; at 2:38pm on the afternoon of Friday, February 22, 2019. Kendall was born on October 14, 1962, and was the eldest of the four children of Dane and Ruby “Cookie” Yard. He spent his childhood primarily in the south, but also spent time in other areas of the country as the Yard’s were a Navy family, and he eventually graduated from Pensacola High School in Florida. In adulthood, Kendall resided in Panama City Beach FL, Topsham ME, and Muscle Shoals AL. Kendall was extremely proud of his children, and instilled solid morals and values in each of them – always encouraging them to strive for success; but more importantly, to be good, honest people. He loved each of his children wholeheartedly, and took great pride in all of their individuality and accomplishments. He lived a simple life, was an extremely hard worker, and was an avid sports enthusiast. Some of Kendall’s most favorite pastimes included coaching his children’s sports teams, playing softball, golfing, watching college football, eating Ramen noodles, Grizzly, and drinking diet Coke. Kendall had the ability to light up any room that he was in, he loved to laugh and make others laugh, he was full of charisma, and absolutely loved interacting with people. In addition to the pride he felt for his children, he also prided himself on hitting a homerun every year since the age of 12. He owned and operated his own franchise of “Lenny’s Sub Shop” in Muscle Shoals, AL, where he enjoyed an endless stream of diet Coke from the fountain, arrived early every morning to be sure that the bread was baking correctly, and was well known in the community for his ability to feed the town and all of its public servants. He is survived by his mother, Ruby “Cookie” Yard of Orange Park FL, brother Ritchie Yard of Orange Park FL, sister Mary Yard of Pensacola FL, and brother Edward Yard of Orange Park FL. He will leave a void in the lives of his four children, Lindsey and husband Nate Franck of Gray ME, Justin Yard of Topsham ME, Tucker Yard of Topsham ME, and Rylee Yard of Muscle Shoals AL. He also leaves behind two precious grandchildren; Weston Ray Yard, and Baby Franck (who will be arriving any day). He is predeceased by his father Dane Allen Yard. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, TN were in charge of services. Gifts in memory of Kendall may be sent to the Kendall Yard Memorial Golf Scholarship ℅ Muscle Shoals Education Foundation, 3200 South Wilson Dam Road, Muscle Shoals, AL 35661. God must have needed a special angel, because we know he only takes the best. We love you so very much and take comfort in knowing that you are now with your Lord, Jesus, and that your legacy will be forever memorialized in all of those who loved you; especially your children.
