SANFORD – Police searching for a woman suspected of robbing and assaulting a man on Tuesday night found her hiding under a bus on High Street in Sanford.
Kristin Carey, 35, of Bodwell Street in Sanford, was charged with robbery, taken into custody and transported to York County Jail, where she was held overnight in lieu of $1,000 cash bail. Carey was to make her first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon by video link from the jail to Springvale District Court.
Sanford Deputy Police Chief Tim Strout said officers responded to the area of Washington and High streets at 6:19 p.m. Tuesday to answer the report of a disturbance.
“(The investigation revealed that a female had assaulted a male and took money and a lighter from his hand,” said Strout in a statement.
He said the two did not know each other.
Carey was located hiding under a bus behind 45 High Street, Strout said.
The property was recovered, police said. The amount of money allegedly taken was not disclosed.
