Topsham – Richard F. Green (Dick) died on January 28, 2019 at home in Topsham due to complications of a stroke surrounded by his family.
Dick was born in Machais, Maine on June 4, 1929 to J. Arthur Green and Madeline Morton Green.
He graduated from Farmington High School, where he excelled in athletics – football, baseball and track. He played baseball on The Farmington Flyers, a semi pro baseball team.
He got his BS from Bowling Green Univ. in Ohio and his Masters Plus from UMO.
Dick was Athletic Director, Coach and Asst Principal at Brunswick Junior High for 25 years. He was instrumental in getting athletic teams started at the Junior High. Football was his passion and his football teams excelled.
Dick was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he met and married in Alabama in 1954, a daughter, Kathy DeWispelaere and husband, Tom of Manassas, Va, a son, Richard A. and his wife Pam, of Wayne, Maine, a son, Gregg J. and his wife Lisa, of Chesterfield, Va.; brothers, Don Green (Beula) of Brunswick and Joe Green (Arlette) of Brooksville, Fl.: Grandchildren: Bennett Green, Nathan (Kelsey) DeWispeleare, Sarah Kate Green (Wil Scherer), Tracy (Albert) Snyder, Derrick (Grace) Green, Gunnar DeWispelaere, Jackson Green, and Jacob Green; Eight great grandchildren.
A breakfast celebration (Dick’s favorite meal) will be held at the American Legion in Topsham on Friday, Feb 8th at 9:30 am. If you would like, please bring your remembrances to share.
