SANFORD — York County Community Action Corporation was awarded a $5,000 donation from TruChoice Federal Credit Union earlier this month as part of TruChoice’s Community Giving.
“We’re always grateful for financial assistance from local businesses” said Barbara Crider, executive director of the agency. “And with the year now entering its coldest months, the funds will certainly be put to good use.”
TruChoice has branch offices in Portland, Buxton and Biddeford. Other local recipients of TruChoice Community Giving include Biddeford YMCA and Biddeford Parks and Recreation.
York County Community Action Corporation was incorporated in 1965 in response to the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Since then, York County communities have counted on YCCAC to provide opportunity and hope to people from all circumstances, particularly in times of transition or adversity.
It offers an array of services to community members including heating assistance, weatherization programs, Head Start and Early Head Start programs for children, tax preparation and transportation services.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
