
BIDDEFORD — The Taco Bell in Biddeford is one of four locations that has closed, prompting the Maine Department of Labor to schedule Rapid Response sessions to assist laid-off workers.
The Taco Bell at 460 Alfred St. has been closed for a number of days, with a note on the door stating the restaurant will open in a couple of days “better than ever.”
After several press inquiries, a Taco Bell spokesperson responded with a brief email statement on Thursday afternoon.
“We want to thank our fans for supporting the Taco Bell location in Biddeford, Maine. We can confirm that the owner has closed this location; fans can visit www.tacobell.com/locations to find their nearest Taco Bell,” stated the company.
The Maine Department of Labor announced on Friday that it had scheduled Rapid Response sessions for workers affected by possible layoffs at Taco Bell restaurants located at Alfred Street in Biddeford, Western Avenue in Augusta, Center Street in Auburn and Washington Avenue in Portland.
Those who have lost their job may be eligible to collect unemployment or apply for additional services, according to the Maine Department of Labor.
The Department of Labor has scheduled four Rapid Response sessions state-wide to offer information about health insurance options and re-employment assistance and answer questions about unemployment benefits.
Locally, a meeting will be held at Biddeford School of Technology, 10 Maplewood Ave., Biddeford, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
The Taco Bell website lists 15 Taco Bell restaurants currently open in Maine, including a location at 491 Main St., Saco.
The Taco Bell at 460 Alfred St. opened in 2017 along with a Jiffy Lube car maintenance shop in a brand new building under a project by Guggenheim Retail Real Estate Partners, a development company headquartered in New York and Chicago.
The nearly two-acre property at 460 Alfred St. previously housed two automobile repair shops that were demolished to make way for the new businesses.
A report by real estate advisory firm Trivanta lists C2C East as the owner of the former local Taco Bell restaurant, with Tony Frazier as the operator.
The property, according to city records is owned by the Frisco, Texas-based company TB-JL BIDDEFORD 794, LLC. The value of the property, which includes the land and the entire building, is assessed as $1.6 million.
