1951 – 2019
Holly B. Mooers, 67, of Augusta, Maine and Case Grande, Arizona, passed away peacefully with her husband and family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Her beautiful smile, love, and compassion will be missed dearly by those who were lucky to have known her.
Holly was born in Leominster, MA on July 29, 1951, the daughter of Roberts James and Marjorie Kaake. She grew up in Augusta, Maine and graduated from Cony High School in 1968, then went on to receive a degree in Accounting from the University of Maine Augusta.
Holly took great pride raising her three children in South Gardiner while working the family farm stand providing fresh produce to the area. She also worked as a Pharmacy Technician and in the Gardiner School District cafeteria department. She loved baking for her family gatherings which included her wonderful Christmas tree bread, yeast rolls, and her famous 3 bean salad.
Holly loved to travel together with husband Bruce in their camper visiting family and friends and discovering the whole United States including Alaska.
Holly is predeceased by her parents Roberts James and Marjorie and Norman Kaake and her sister Betsy Hatch.
Holly is survived by her husband MCPO Bruce D. Mooers, Sr. (ret); her children Jason Spearin (Tricia), Robyn Forrest (Dustin), Joshua Spearin (Amanda), Bruce D. Mooers, Jr. (Diane), Kimberly Mooers and Carla-Marie Mooers, and 11 grandchildren whom she adored; her siblings, Dianne Mater, Cindy Robbins, Nancy Schalk, Norman B. Kaake, Deborah Atwood, Bruce Kaake and Joyce Schoenthaler; her in-laws Robert and Vivian (Mooers) Wixom of Topsham, Michael Mooers, James Mooers, Steven Mooers, Kathaleen Bailey, Patricia Labbe-Cormier, Susan Wixom, Steve Hatch; and several niece and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of MaineGeneral Medical Center, Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta, St. Joseph Hospital in Pheonix, and Dana Farber Center for their compassion and dedication in the care of Holly.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 11th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12th, at 10:00AM
A Spring burial will be planned at the Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
