BIDDEFORD — The Biddeford-Saco Elks, a fraternal and benevolent organization committed to serving the local communities’ ongoing needs, has been able to make use of grant money awarded by the Community Investment Program of the Elks National Foundation.

A total of $10,750 has been used to fund projects that focus on three areas including schools, underprivileged and distressed residents, and veterans.

Of that, $3,750 was given to Saco, Old Orchard Beach and Biddeford schools to assist in the funding of their arts and libraries.

Local food pantries received $1,500 donations and $2,000 of the grant money is going to help homeless veterans in Saco and Biddeford facilities, providing bedding supplies and furnishings for new apartments.

Another $2,000 has been given to Biddeford area schools to provide 120 stuffed backpacks for students in need.

Ward Grossman, the chairman of the Community Investment Program at the Biddeford-Saco Elks, and member David Guay are credited with spearheading these latest round of community funding projects, showing the Elks Motto, “Elks Care – Elks Share.”
