Editor,

We would like to offer a response to Basia Fisher’s letter that you recently printed.

Ms. Fisher makes some valid points.  ShuttleBus-Zoom employees have been in contact with Basia and her family and have discussed options available that would meet some of her needs to the best of our ability.

Public transportation is broadly designed to help the general public. At ShuttleBus-Zoom, we train our drivers to be helpful and to accommodate people with disabilities. All of our buses are equipped to handle wheelchairs and electric scooters. Our buses kneel so that it is easier to get onboard.  We do all we can to be good community citizens.

It is impossible for us to maintain a fixed-route schedule and handle on-demand needs. Companies such as Logisticare and York County Community Action have been designed to handle on-demand ridership. We encourage riders with unique needs to contact these specialized companies and hopefully they can serve your riding needs.

Our Transit Angel project has special free passes so riders do not need to handle money when riding our buses.  These passes are sponsored through the generosity of local businesses. We also provide 10 ride and monthly passes at reasonable rates. They are available by contacting our office and we will direct you to the nearest location for pick up or find a way to get the passes to you.

ShuttleBus-Zoom will continue to look at options, tweak our schedules, and work with  other agencies to do our very best to coordinate rides for our customers. If you should have any other questions or comments, please contact our Mobility Manager, Perian Carpenter at 282-5408 or pcarpenter@shuttlebus-zoom.com.
