BRUNSWICK — Midcoast Moms Demand Action is presenting a forum about the Be SMART gun safety program on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at the UU Church of Brunswick.
According to Midcoast Moms, the forum “is a non-political, 20-minute presentation for parents, teachers, PTOs, health care workers, therapists and anyone interested in promoting or learning about firearm safety in the home. The program may help save lives by reducing unintentional shooting deaths and injuries, and by reducing teen suicide rates.”
This is an opportunity to see the program, given by.
The event is free and open to the public and will include a panel discussion with Be SMART.Maine director Sue Repko of Maine Moms Demand Action, Brunswick Police Chief Richard Rizzo and a spokesperson for the Maine chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“Oftentimes, firearm owners assume their gun is safely stored, and the tragic reality is that it often is not,” Repko said in the release. “This program also offers ways for parents to broach the subject with friends and relatives regarding guns in the home. The holidays are a very good time to be thinking about this, and while it might seem like a difficult conversation to have, we can offer parents some strategies on how to do it.”
