BATH — Bath firefighters responded to a small fire Wednesday morning at 19 Maxwell St., according to Bath Fire Department Capt. Chris Cummings.
The department was made aware of the fire at the one-story residential building at 7:23 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene within three minutes. All occupants of the building were able to get out, and firefighters were able to put out the flames in a timely manner.
“It was a small fire in the basement that was quickly extinguished,” said Cummings. “Nobody was hurt and there was minimal damage.”
The cause of the fire was undetermined, he noted.
Cummings added that the firefighters were able to respond quickly to the scene and extinguish the flames before major damage was done thanks largely to working smoke detectors.
“Working smoke detectors alerted the person inside, who called us,” said Cummings. “Working smoke detectors are important all the time, but especially this time of year.”
