Sunny skies, little wind and temperatures above freezing made for a “very good turnout” and “enjoyable parade” American Legion Post 35 Commander Guy Linscott said as South Portland celebrated Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 12. Emma O’Donnell spent her morning off from school with her family waving American flags and watching the parade go by on Broadway. Her mother, Morgan O’Donnell, said it was important to their family to show support for military veterans. “They’ve done so much for us,” she said. “The least we can do is get out and show our appreciation.” The parade, which began at Southern Maine Community College and concluded with a ceremony at the veteran’s monument in Mill Creek Park, is hosted by the South Portland War Veteran’s Memorial Association. Among those marching were city officials and public safety personnel; the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps; the South Portland High School band; Boy, Girl and Cub scouts, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
