Q&A

1) What legislation do you support, if any, to address the state’s opiate crisis?

Stiffer penalties for dealers selling opiates from out of state. Send a message for them to stay the hell out of Maine. Stronger requirements for physicians in monitoring compliance with patients.

2) What legislation do you support, if any, to address failures in the state’s child abuse prevention system?

Task force oversight requirements in DHHS with accountability at the top reporting to the legislative committees involved monthly.

3) Should schools continue to push forward with proficiency-based diplomas? Why or why not?

Yes, our current system is failing. Proficiency-based diplomas require a much higher standard and will eliminate the rubber stamping of students as they progress from grade to grade to graduation.

4) Are you in favor of some type of universal health care for Maine residents? Why, or why not?

No, because one shoe doesn’t fit all feet. Some Maine citizens need more services than others and the ability to “affordably” choose what is needed has to be improved.

5) Do you support Question 1 (the 3.8% tax to fund the home care program)? Why, or why not?

No. This proposed would give Maine the highest tax rate in the country for household income over $128,400. Maine already has a hard time recruiting physicians and small business entrepreneurs.

6) Are you frustrated by the political sniping, exaggeration and even lies between the parties and their supporters that have threatened progress usually reached through respect and reasoned compromise? If so, what will you personally do to make the situation better?

I will demand respect and decorum regardless of race, color, sex or party. I will point out common ground and remind each party that united we function and divided we fail as a body.

7) Tell voters something about yourself that they don’t already know, and might surprise them.

In 2007 after training on Sebago Lake, I attended the Hobie 16 World Championship race held in Suva, Fiji as crew. I was certified in SCUBA at the age of 13, and I am also classically trained Cellist.

Speed round: Should voters be required to show ID at the polls?

Yes.
