WELLS — The Kennebunk volleyball team was unable to complete the sweep against Wells on Tuesday night, but the Rams closed things out in the fourth set as they earned a 3-1 victory over the host Warriors.
Kennebunk (5-3) won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21. The Warriors (3-4) avoided the sweep in the third set with a 25-23 win, but the Rams regrouped to take the fourth set 25-22.
“I think the girls really pulled together well. When they were down, they kept coming together and fighting back,” said Kennebunk head coach Michael Morrison.
The Rams kept a small lead over the Warriors throughout the first set.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle until Francesca Gargano served up seven points and cemented the Rams’ lead.
“Francey is one of our best servers, one of our best all-around players as well. She just gets up there and does her job. She just rips, tosses the ball well, hits the ball well and she picks her spots well in the court. We usually count of her to make runs for us and I think she did tonight. She does a great job for us. When she gets to the line — I smile,” said Morrison.
The Warriors would turn the tide in the third set for their first win. Olivia Brousseau served up the last six match points to capture the win for Wells.
“In the third set, we made some adjustments but really just telling the team to keep it simple, play volleyball, let’s just get the ball over the net helped,” said Wells coach Rachel Graceffa.

During the fourth set, Wells momentum kept them in the lead throughout the game but the Rams rallied to take home the win.
“I thought it was a great game obviously we didn’t come out on top but Kennebunk is a great team,” said Graceffa.
Wells held a 22-19 lead, when Kennebunk’s Isabella Smith served up five points to win the matchup for the Rams.
“I’m a new coach of this team and we’ve been working all season to never give up and never get down on our points and they fight back really well. Especially once they get a point back from a team that’s ahead of us, then we start making our runs and doing our job. These girls they just don’t give up, they just fight fight fight,” said Morrison.
Hannah Davis had four kills and Olivia Brousseau finished with eight aces to lead Wells.
Wells will travel to Marshwood, while Kennebunk will host Thornton Academy on Thursday.
