SANFORD — The Sanford field hockey won for the first time on the new turf at Alumni Stadium on Thursday night.
The Spartans defeated Deering 3-0.
During the first half, Kim Works scored twice to put Sanford in the lead.
Works scored once at the 8:11 mark. With only 1:16 left in the first half, Works scored again with the assistance of Phoebe Joy.
During the second half, Kallee Turner assisted Alysha Simpson in creating the final score of 3-0.
Deering goalie Maddalena Lapomida made 18 saves. Sanford goalie Jordan Benvie made 11 saves in the win.
Thornton Academy 6, Noble 0
Thornton Academy (4-1) could not be stopped by Noble on Thursday night.
Lily Stark, Cat Henaire, Tori Labbe, Madison Skillings, Alyssa Doughty scored goals for the Trojans.
Noble had one offensive corner. Thornton was awarded seven.
Thornton goalie Jenica Botting made two saves in the shut out. Including a double-leg stack save to stop a Noble break-away.
The Trojans will travel to Bonny Eagle on Saturday afternoon.
GOLF
Thornton Academy 13, Westbrook 0
Thornton Academy swept Westbrook on Thursday night.
Amanda Ouellette fired a round of 37 to help Thornton pick up the win.
Nick Burton, YoYo Wu, Chris Bearden, Jack Burton and Tyler Snell also earned wins for the Trojans.
Massabesic 11, Sanford 2
The Mustangs topped the Spartans on Thursday night.
Jonah Roy, Ethan Laverriere, Garrett Gerard, Noah Chretien and Codie Fall earned wins for Massabesic.
Zachary Bresett earned two wins for Sanford.
