BRUNSWICK

Mason Brigham and Travis Nadeau scored firsthalf goals as the Mt. Ararat High School boys soccer team downed “Battle of the Bridge” rival Brunswick, 2- 0, on Tuesday in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action.

The visiting Eagles improved to 3-1 and visit Camden Hills on Friday, while the Dragons fell to 0-3- 1 and hit the road for Bangor on Thursday.

Brigham’s goal was assisted by Nadeau just 8:27 into the game, and Nadeau doubled the lead with 16:30 remaining until halftime off a Max Spelke setup.

James Singleton turned away three shots for the win as Mt. Ararat held a 12-3 shot advantage.

Jack McDiarmid had eight saves for Brunswick.

YARMOUTH 1

Yarmouth (3-0-1) scored a goal for each team as the visiting Falcons put an end to the Clippers’ three-year 26- game winning streak at Yarmouth in Western Maine Conference play.

The Clippers, who are still on a 34-game unbeaten streak, took a 1-0 lead when Eric LaBrie scored on a quick counter attack seven minutes into the game.

Yarmouth maintained that lead until a Clippers defender headed the ball into his own net with over six minutes left in the match.

Yarmouth keeper Isaac Owen made two saves.

Atticus Patrick recorded four saves for the Falcons, who host York on Friday at 6 p.m.

The host Hornets rallied from a two-goal deficit for a KVAC tie with the Shipbuilders at Turner.

Morse (0-3-2) led 2-0 on a goal from Jacob Brochu (assisted by Lucas Ouimette) and an own goal off a cross from Gavin Hanna.

Leavitt made it a 2-1 game on a second half unassisted goal by Ian Redstone, and three minutes later Garrett Addison tied the game.

In overtime, Leavitt keeper Blaine Clark (22 saves) made a game-saving stop on Hanna to preserve the tie.

Morse goaltender Miles Bobbe turned away 16 shots.

The Shipbuilders host Oceanside on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

FREEPORT — Anna Wallace broke a scoreless tie with 11:50 left in the first half, and then added a second goal 3:24 later as Yarmouth handed Freeport (2-1-1) its first loss, 4-2, in WMC play.

Parker Harnett netted a late goal to give Yarmouth (2-2) a 3-0 halftime lead. Abi Hinks upped the lead to 4-0 early in the second half before Catriona Gould scored for Freeport with just under 15 minutes to play.

Carly Intraversto, who assisted on Gould’s goal, notched the final goal.

Hope Olsen made five saves in net for the Clippers. Intraversato had 15 saves for Freeport, and Leah Ruseicki three in relief.

The Falcons visit York on Thursday at 6 p.m.

MT. ABRAM 6

Alice Cockerham scored a hat trick to lead the Roadrunners to a Mountain Valley Conference win over the Wolverines in Strong.

Summer Ross, Maddie Phelps and Camryn Wahl added goals for Mt. Abram (5-0-0). Emily Kidd had two saves to earn the shutout.

Sydnie Thayer made six saves for Wiscasset, which fell to 0-4 and hosts Spruce Mountain on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Bowdoin men’s soccer

BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin used a pair of second-half goals and held off a late flurry to defeat Husson, 2-1, in a non-conference match at Pickard Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears bounced back from a pair of one-goal losses over the weekend to improve to 2-2. Husson is 1-4- 1 with the loss.

Bowdoin completely controlled the game in the opening half, owning a 12- 0 shot advantage but failed to find the back of the net, including on a penalty kick opportunity just five minutes into the contest. Husson goaltender Benjamin Powell stopped four first- half shots as the game remained scoreless at intermission.

Bowdoin finally scored in the 50th minute when a Matty McColl corner kick curled towards the goal and slipped between the gloves of Powell to give the hosts a 1-0 edge.

The Polar Bears doubled their lead in the 62nd minute as Drake Byrd fed a low cross to the foot of Luke Lockwood, who buried it with his left foot to make it 2-0 Bowdoin.

Husson made it interesting late, as a long ball from Shuby Bodke sailed down the center of the field. Nathan Firlings split the Bowdoin defense and got a toe on the lofted ball, redirecting it past Bowdoin goaltender Owen Wolfson in the 65th minute to trim the lead to 2-1.

The Eagles made a late push and Wolfson was forced to make two saves down the stretch to seal the win for the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin owned a 22- 3 edge in shots for the match and held a 10- 2 advantage in corner kicks. Powell made eight saves for Husson, while Wolfson finished with two stops for Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears head to Wesleyan in a return to NESCAC action Saturday at 2 p.m.

Bowdoin women’s soccer

BRUNSWICK — The Polar Bears posted a fourgoal opening half to pick up NESCAC victory over Bates on Tuesday evening with a 4-0 victory.

The Polar Bears (1-1-1, 1- 1 NESCAC) collected their first win of the season, as well as breaking open the offensive floodgates after over 200 minutes of scoreless soccer. The Bobcats fell to 1-2 (0-2 NESCAC).

Less than five minutes into action, Emily Pawlak lined up a free kick from just outside the box. The senior rang her shot off the crossbar and the ball bounced down and across the goal line.

Sophia Lemmer served a free kick from the left side, roughly 40-yards out, to the top of the box. The ball deflected back to Julia Patterson who turned and made a quick move before launching a right footed shot up and over the outstretched hands of Katherine Nuckols.

Bates nearly tallied an equalizer three minutes later as Adena Bernot fired off a similar shot, with the ball sailing just over the crossbar.

Bowdoin responded in the 23rd minute as Morgen Gallagher streaked down the right side, beating a defender, and found Lynn Farquhar on the far post with a long cross. Farquar put the ball away with a clean one-touch.

The Polar Bears capped the half with a final goal in the last 1: 58 of play. Allie Dougel worked the ball on the right side of the box and sent a bouncing pass into the middle where Kate Morrison connected midair for the goal.

Two minutes into the second half Bates looked to score as Caroline Bogue bounced a shot off the crossbar, only to see the ball bound back into play and cleared by the Bowdoin defense.

The Polar Bears held a 13- 7 advantage in shots and 4- 1 edge in corner kicks. Nuckols made three saves for the Bobcats. Sabrina Albanese earned the win with a scoreless first half in net. Penny Rocchio played 20 minutes in net for Bowdoin and Isabel Ball made two saves in 25 minutes of work.

Bowdoin plays at Wesleyan on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
