LEBANON — A South Berwick ATV operator who allegedly told state police troopers in May that he didn’t know anything about an ATV crash involving a pedestrian and that he didn’t own an ATV has been indicted on four charges.

A York County Grand Jury on Sept. 6 handed up felony charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor charges of operating under the influence and operating an ATV to endanger, against Franklin Mann, 48. The charges stem from an incident at a campground at 4 x 4 Proving Ground on the night of May 26.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries, according to police, and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Maine State Police from Troop A in Alfred responded to the report that an ATV had crashed into a pedestrian and drove away.

Troopers located a man who matched the description of the suspect walking down a dirt path in the campground. Police said they confirmed Mann was the registered owner of the ATV and said witnesses on the scene told them that Mann was the operator.

Mann is represented by attorney John Driscoll.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt but a finding that enough evidence exists to move forward with prosecution.
