Wren Petreault scored two goals and Emily Martin added the game-winner as the Morse High School girls soccer team held off Erskine Academy, 3-2, in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference play at McMann Field.

The Shipbuilders improved to 2-1 and visit Maranacook on Saturday at 10 a.m. The visiting Eagles fell to 1-2 on Thursday.

Trailing 1-0, Morse tied the game when Martin set up Petreault with three minutes left until halftime.

Julia Clifford, who had two assists, fed Petreault for the go-ahead goal midway through the second frame, and Martin made it a 3-1 game with 10 minutes remaining.

In goal, Abby Sreden turned away 10 shots for the win.

“This was a physical, wellplayed game between two evenly-matched teams,” said Morse coach Branden Noltkamper. “Erskine is a good side, and this is a good win for us.”

Volleyball

CAPE ELIZABETH — Brunswick/Mt. Ararat dropped a 3-0 decision to Cape Elizabeth.

The Capers (2-0) posted set scores of 25-9, 25-11, 25-14.

Brunswick/Mt. Ararat (0- 2) was led by Lauren Whitlock with three assists and six digs, along with Kathleen Trapp with five digs and one ace. Naomi Martin chipped in three kills, Chloe Coombs two aces and two kills, and Emma Dorr dished out a pair of assists.

The Dragons visit North Yarmouth tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Field hockey

NAPLES — Freeport avenged last year’s playoff loss to Lake Region, capturing a 2-0 Western Maine Conference win on the road.

“They talked about that,” said head coach Marcia Wood, whose 2-1 Falcons visit Cape Elizabeth on Monday at 6 p.m. “They remembered that feeling from last year and worked hard to get this win.”

Natalie Anderson scored both Freeport goals, while Katelyn Rouleau had two saves for the shutout. Ally Randall picked up an assist on Anderson’s second-half goal.

Emily Reichenbach scored four goals to lead the Indians (3-0) over Brunswick (1- 2) in KVAC action.

Logan Wing added two goals for Skowhegan. Elizabeth York, Meredith Mitchell, Maliea Kelso, Adella Foss, Brooklyn Hubbard and Aja Rogers also scored, and McKenzie McConnell made one save.

Brunswick goaltenders Ainsley Harrower and Liberty Krauss combined for 15 saves in the loss.

The Dragons host Lewiston on Monday at 4 p.m.

Boys soccer

SOUTH CHINA — Erskine Academy tallied a pair of goals for a 2-0 KVAC win over Morse.

The Shipbuilders are 0-2-1 and entertain Maranacook on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles improved to 1-2.

Dom Denico and Sage Hapgood-Belanger had a goal each in the win. David McGraw turned aside five shots.

Morse netminder Asa Hodgdon had seven saves.
