Pets like Pebbles, a rescue from Puerto Rico at the Animal Welfare Society, will benefit from the organization’s annual Strut Your Mutt fundrasier, which assists in veterinary care expenses for animals cared for at the shelter. SUBMITTED PHOTO
KENNEBUNK —Strut Your Mutt, coming up on Sept. 9 is the Animal Welfare Society’s largest fundraising event of the year.
Because of the generosity of our underwriting sponsor, Kennebunk Savings, all registration fees, sponsorships and pledge donations raised from the walk directly benefit the veterinary care for pets in need.
Strut Your Mutt is supported by a number of Wellness Boosters. These businesses generously support the health and wellbeing of thousands of homeless and community pets that visit the AWS Community Veterinary Clinic every year.
Wellness Superheroes support surgery. Surgeries at the Community Veterinary Clinic can include routine mass removals to more complex orthopedic procedures and eye care. Each surgery is unique and requires a correct balance of veterinary skill, anesthesia, pain medication and follow-up care and include at the Barnacle Billy’s, Congdon’s Doughnuts, Eastern Propane & Oil, and HM Payson.
Wellness Standouts support spaying and neutering and aftercare, the most common procedure at the AWS Community Veterinary Clinic. Standouts include Kuma Fitness & Leadership.
Wellness Leaders support lab work, used to diagnose various medical conditions. Xrays are used to determine broken limbs, sprained paws, foreign object ingestion and more. All diagnostics are necessary to determine future care. Leaders include Connected Office Technologies, Cross Insurance and Old Vines Wine Bar. Finally, Wellness Warriors cover wound care, a common ailment for stray pets coming to AWS. Warriors include Alfred-Waterboro Veterinary Hospital, Edison Press and Hussey Seating.
You can support the work done at the Community Veterinary Clinic and help animals like Pebbles. Pebbles is a sweet pup from Puerto Rico who has needed wound care, surgery and follow-up care due to physical disability she’d had since birth.
Now that she’s on the road to recovery, she’s a happy-go-lucky pup ready for her new home.
