Editor,
As Director of the Kennebunk Free Library I want to thank our patrons, residents, and business owners for their overwhelming support of our library during our recent fundraising events.
The library’s Annual Appeal, which ended June 30, 2018, is our largest yearly fundraiser and is essential to our providing a full range of library services. With the generous support of our community, this year we raised $71,319.17, exceeding our fundraising goal by nearly 6 percent.
On July 14 we hosted the biggest party in town with our second largest annual fundraiser, the 21st Edition Road Race. Live music was provided by the Kennebunk River Band and Federal Jack’s brought dinner to our 5K which had 477 registrants. Many, many local businesses supported us with raffle prizes and sponsorships and our dedicated corps of volunteers showed in full force. A big thank you also goes to the Kennebunk Police Department and Kennebunk Rescue for keeping the route safe for all of our participants.
On behalf of the Staff and Trustees of the Kennebunk Free Library, I extend heartfelt thanks for your support during these key fundraisers and throughout the year. As a result we are able to continue to provide you with the high quality, personal service we have been proud of for over 100 years.

Director, Kennebunk Free Library

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
