YORK COUNTY — Law enforcement agents arrested two people Thursday following an investigation of methamphetamine sales in Sanford and Biddeford.

According to Steve McCausland, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman, agents have been investigating the sales of methamphetamine by a Sanford couple for the past three months.

“Agents had made a number of sales from the couple,” McCausland said.

On Thursday, drug agents arrested Brittany Avanzato, 25, of Sanford and Christopher Rock, 30, of Sanford as they were delivering 6.5 grams of meth at a Biddeford donut shop, McCausland said.

“A search of Avanzato’s vehicle yielded 1.2 grams of cocaine base and an additional 3.5 grams of meth,” he said.

Avanzato and Rock were charged with aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs (meth) and remanded to the York County Jail and bail for each has been set at $10,000 cash.

McCausland said that they will remain in custody pending an initial court appearance and the charge was upgraded to aggravated drug trafficking because it took place in a school zone.

Assisting drug agents in making the arrest in Biddeford were Maine State Police and officers from the Biddeford Police Department.
