HOLLIS — Two men were arrested and a teenager was issued a summons after an incident at the Salmon Falls Bridge in Hollis on Thursday.

A Maine State Troopers  went to the Salmon Falls Bridge on Route 202 in Hollis at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday to investigate a complaint of suspicious activity and alcohol violation, according to a press release from Maine State Police.

While the trooper spoke to two people at the scene, a group of about eight people approached the trooper on the bridge and demanded he let their friends go, according to police.

The people were warned numerous times to get off the road and the bridge, but did not comply to police requests, according to state police.

Buxton police were called for backup assistance and Jeremiah Baker, 21, of Westbrook, and Owen Chamberlain, 18, of Lewiston, were arrested and a 16-year-old from Lewiston was issued a summons for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

Baker and Chamberlain were taken to the York County Jail where they were charged with failure to disperse, disorderly conduct, obstructing government administration, and obstructing a public way. Bail was set at $500 and as of Friday afternoon, Chamberlain was still at the jail.

“Be advised, if an officer gives you a lawful order to remove yourself from a public way, you are required to do so,” Buxton Police Chief Troy Cline wrote on the department ‘s Facebook page on Friday afternoon.

Buxton police said local and state police will be patrolling the Salmon Falls Bridge to deter unlawful conduct and those who are actively obstructing a public way will be arrested and charged accordingly.
