WELLS — A Colorado woman was critically injured in a car accident on U.S. Route 1 in Wells on Wednesday morning.
Police were called out to an accident involving a car and a pedestrian around 10 a.m. on Route 1 at the intersection of Buffam Hill Road.
The pedestrian, Monica Langley, 59, of Littleton, Colorado, was at the Chase Farms produce stand and a 2011 Hyundai Sonata was traveling south on Route 1 in stop and go traffic. The car, driven by Eric R. Nixon, 51, of Wells, left the roadway, hit a road sign, a parked vehicle, the side of the food stand and then the pedestrian, according to a press release from Wells Police.
Langley went over the car and landed on the side of the road, according to police. The car came to rest in an embankment after striking a utility pole.
Both Langley, and the driver of the car, Eric Nixon, 51, of Wells, were transported to nearby hospitals, according to police, with Langley being transported to Maine Medical Center with critical injuries.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Wells Police Department and the Maine Warden Service.
