ARUNDEL —Three people were injured, one seriously, police said, as a result of a three-car crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 1, known as Portland Road, and Post Road at noon on Thursday.
York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. said a 2014 GMC Terrain, operated by Shawna Taylor, 39, of Limerick, was slowing down on Portland Road, preparing to turn left onto Post Road when she was struck from the rear by a 2000 Buick Lesabre, driven by Christopher Doten, 27, of Meddybemps, in eastern Washington County.
King said Doten’s vehicle careened off the GMC, went into the oncoming lane and struck a 2015 Ford Escape, operated by Ann Croaken, 70, of Lyman.
Taylor and Doten were alone in their respective vehicles. Ronald Croaken, 73, was a passenger in the Ford Escape.
The impact trapped Doten and he was removed from the Lesabre by Biddeford, Kennebunk and Arundel rescue personnel. King said Doten suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford where he was listed in stable condition.
The sheriff said Ann Croaken suffered a broken arm and her husband suffered a laceration to his arm. They were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The crash is under investigation.
