An 18-year-old Unity woman was identified Monday as the person killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night in Burnham. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
Cheyenne Bryden was a passenger in a car driven by Shawn Judkins, also 18 and from Unity, said Waldo County Sheriff Jeff Trafton.
The vehicle was traveling south on Horseback Road near Twitchell Corner, where Horseback Road intersects Troy Road, when it rolled over and struck trees around 9:48 p.m. Saturday.
Judkins had a learner’s permit and was injured in the crash. A 16-year-old boy from Unity was also injured.
The two were taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, where Judkins was treated and released.
The 16-year-old was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for injuries that were not life-threatening, Trafton said.
Bryden was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a 2018 graduate of Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, according to Dawn Hale, the school’s registrar.
Police on Sunday worked to reconstruct the scene and will continue to investigate the cause of the crash, Trafton said.
