MACHIAS — Matt Kimball singled home two runs during a four-run first inning Sunday as Saco took control and went on to a 12-4 victory against Lewiston in the winner’s bracket final of the state 11-12 Little League baseball tournament.

Mac Lowe added a pair of hits for Saco, including a two-run homer in the fouth, and closed out the game with three innings of one-run relief. Josh Ney also homered for Saco.

Saco, undefeated in the double-elimination tournament, advanced to Wednesday’s 5 p.m. championhip game, with an if-necessary game at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lewiston will play whichever team emerges from the loser’s bracket for the right to meet Saco in the final round.

SOFTBALL

LITTLE LEAGUE: Gabby Mercado came home on Elena Ohe’s third-inning groundout to second, giving Connecticut the lead en route to a 6-1 victory over York, the Maine champion, during round-robin play of the 11-12 Eastern Regional in Bristol, Connecticut.

Connecticut pulled away with two-run rallies in each of the final two innings.

Madison Raymond led York with three hits, including a first-inning single that scored Chloe Bourque.

York needs to beat Massachusetts in a 10 a.m. game Monday to avoid elimination.

Kennedy Kimball laced a go-ahead bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning as Windham defeated Kennebunk/Wells 5-2 in the 9-10 state championship game at Glenburn.

Windham will represent Maine in the Eastern Regionals in Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania. The regionals open Saturday.

Chloe Edwards rapped a two-run single to increase Windham’s lead in the sixth. Kimball also was the winning pitcher, striking out 16 in the six-inning game.

Juliann Pike, who struck out 15 for Kennebunk/Wells, opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first. Delani Brown added an RBI single in the third.
