KENNEBUNK — With holiday traffic intensifying along the Maine Turnpike, motorists will discover that the installation of Tesla charging stations at the Kennebunk Service Plazas on the turnpike has been completed and the units are now available for use.
A total of 16 Tesla charging units are available at the service plazas including eight at the northbound plaza and eight at the southbound plaza.
The project was funded by Tesla and also provides room to accommodate future charging units for other systems and vendors when they become available. There is additional capacity for six units at southbound and eight spaces available at the northbound plaza.
The Maine Turnpike Authority is coordinating with Efficiency Maine to find vendors that can put the other available spaces to use.
Tesla Superchargers deliver between 120 to 140 kilowatts of power, enough to fully charge a Model S with a 90-kWh battery in just over an hour, or provide 170 miles of range in 30 minutes.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
