A Raymond woman suffered multiple broken bones Thursday when she was hit by a passing vehicle as she retrieved her mail, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.
Joan Bellows, 61, of Raymond was collecting mail from her mailbox on Mill Street about 12:21 p.m. when she was hit by a passing Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Bellows was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of multiple broken bones and abrasions on her extremities.
The injuries were serious but not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the pickup truck, 25-year-old Alex Hackworth of Southampton, has not been charged and the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office said.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
