PARKER SWANSON of Bowdoin is presented a certificate by Commander David Watson of the Brunswick American Legion Post 20 Wednesday for attending Dirigo Boys State at Thomas College recently as the legion’s representative. The Dirigo Boys State and Dirigo Girls State are educational programs that provide Maine high school juniors with the opportunity to participate in a week-long course that supplements high school instruction about the United States government and its functions. “I was apprehensive at first. Politics are kind of not my thing in this day and age,” Swanson said. “I wasn’t the only one. There were a lot of kids there who had a great time and those are people I’m going to have with me for the rest of my life and who I’m still in contact with from all over the state of Maine. I had a great time and I want to thank you all for a great trip.” DARCIE MOORE / THE TIMES RECORD
