The Nineteenth Amendment (XIX) to the United States Constitution: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.  Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

People of goodwill, working together can make a difference. The generations of women before us who made sacrifices in the struggle for equality paved the way for change.  A group of us were having coffee and socializing and the subject of voting came up. We were chatting and exchanging ideas.

”Who did you vote for?  I forgot to vote that day. I was so busy I did not get to the booth. I couldn’t decide who to vote for. Who do you like? Perhaps we will have a woman president! Would you want to be president of the United States?”

One of the greatest political battles in American History is the conflict for the right for women to vote.  Anyone interested in this frenzied battle will find an inspiring struggle for suffrage.  It is an American history story about race, gander, power, state’s rights and democracy.

Are we charting a new path? Will there be a new chapter in the American story? Given all the gains women have made in the last one hundred years, having a women president may not seem like that big a deal. I look around at all women are doing in America today and I am inspired. In the world of art, business and politics women are creating their own game. Let’s take a glimpse of their attributes. Today, with high-speed minds women have a vision and present-day tendencies. People of goodwill, working as a team, can make a difference.

I am energized and enthralled as my granddaughters and other young ladies fully embrace their feminine qualities in positions in their communities, in their careers and in public office. (I cannot help but wonder what my father would think! He was a bright man but girls did not go to school. Girls did not do a lot of things. I smile.) The future is getting more female.

Other areas these young ladies are interested in is health, nutrition and exercise. We are fortunate to live in such a health conscious community-gyms, classes and good trainers for all ages and needs. Take your choice.

These young ladies are also interested in nutrition, exercise and health.  The latest guest on my show was Erica S. Robertson, B.S. MPH, fitness director of the U-ExCEL Staff at UNE. (P.S. my father believed physical activity for girls.)  Lucky me.
