BRUNSWICK — Doris Barbara Brillant, age 73 of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 22, 2018 at her residence with her family at her side.
Doris was born in Livermore Falls, ME on March 17, 1945, a daughter of William and Yvette (Desjardins) LaPointe and attended local schools. She later graduated from Farmington State Teachers College and was a teacher for over 38 years at the Coffin School.
She married Paul Brillant on July 12, 1969.
Mrs. Brillant was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister and also gave communion with her friend, Elizabeth Huntley to home-bound people. Doris was also local chairperson for the Lady of Fatima Day at St. John’s.
She was an active tennis player who made it to three Nationals in Mixed Doubles, she served as a water aerobics instructor at the YMCA in Bath, she was a member of the Sage Square Dancers, she served as local president of the Brunswick Jaycees, and she enjoyed, with her husband, the Maine State Music Theater as season ticket holders. She loved her poodles, enjoyed teaching reading, and for over 40 years, spending time in Ogunquit at Sea Chambers.
Doris is predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Elaine LaPointe of Livermore Falls.
She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Paul of Brunswick; their son, William Brillant of Portland; and a godchild, Jane Desjardins Harvey of East Waterboro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM Thursday, June 28, at St. John the Baptist Church, 39 Pleasant Street, Brunswick. At Doris’s request, please wear casual clothing. A reception will be held at a place to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her memory to the Founded on Faith Multi-Purpose Building Campaign, C/O All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen Street, Brunswick, ME 04011. Please note in the memo on checks, “Founded On Faith.” Arrangements are in the care of Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick.
