“And he shall be like the light of the morning sun rising on a cloudless morning, gleaming from the rain on a grassy field.” 2 Samuel 23:4
Walking in the Rain
What is rain but the re-distribution of life-giving water in the form of drizzle, showers, downpours, cloudbursts, or just plain raining cats and dogs? Rain keeps the rivers flowing. It fills the lakes and reservoirs, waters the plants, and quenches and refreshes the land. When we step outside after the rain we step into a sparkling new world. The colors are more brilliant, the smells and sounds more alive. God has been doing his house cleaning. Most of us simply stay inside and wait for the sun to come out, but walking in the rain can provide us some space for our emotions to run free and give us a sense of peace. We learn to see things with a new perspective. Charlie Chaplin once said, “I love walking in the rain because nobody can see me crying.” So the next time it rains, let’s don our raincoats and boots, or grab an umbrella, and go for a walk. It’s a good way to cool off and get some needed exercise, and it may have the added benefit of putting us in a prayerful frame of mind.
