After the G-7 summit of developed nations, President Trump made some Twitter remarks about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada. One tweet accused Mr. Trudeau of being “dishonest & weak,” and another claimed that the prime minister had made “false statements.”

These tweets may be harmful to the relationship between the U.S. and one of its closest allies, Canada, a country that’s been our friend since the 1800s.

I would urge anyone upset with these remarks to contact the Canadian consulate in Portland at (207) 775-1547, or send a message directly to the prime minister’s office at pm.gc.ca/eng/connect. There is a contact form. Unfortunately, you have to state what province you live in, and there is no entry on the drop-down menu for a state. I entered “Nova Scotia” and then, in the body of the message, gave my correct address in the U.S.

Please express your friendship with the government and the people of Canada. I am sure they would appreciate it.
