SOUTH PORTLAND — Donald A. Bourassa, 82, of Bonnybriar Road, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
Don was born in Biddeford, Maine on July 8, 1935 the son of the late Ernest C. and Irene M. (Girouard) Bourassa. He attended local schools in Biddeford. Don enlisted and served in the United States Army.
On April 12, 1958, Don married the love of his life Theresa J. Poulin at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. After residing in the Biddeford area for a brief time, Don and Theresa made South Portland their home.
Starting work at a young age, Don worked for Colonial Cleaners in South Portland for several years. He began his career in the refrigeration and cooling business with Gallagher Refrigeration in Saco for many years before transferring to Holden Refrigeration in Portland where he remained until they closed. He then finished his working career with Johnson and Jordan, retiring in 1998 after more than 33 years in the refrigeration and cooling business. Don was a hard worker and would work long hours. When not at work he loved to be in the outdoors especially if he was fishing. He loved going dancing with Theresa and cherished the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. He will long be remembered as the jokester of the family because Don loved to make people laugh.
He was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist and Holy Cross Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifelong member of the Scarborough American Legion Post #76.
Don was predeceased by a sister, Rachel Bourassa; and a brother, Paul Bourassa. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Theresa Bourassa of South Portland; a daughter, Diane Rodney of South Portland; two sisters, Lorraine Bourassa of Kennebunk, and Priscilla and her husband Rene LaRoche of Biddeford; a brother, Robert and his husband Brian Bourassa of Washington; two grandchildren, Benjamin Rodney of Lyman and Marcus Rodney and his companion Audreyanne Kimball of Florida; one great grandchild, Paisley Rodney of Florida and a second on the way; several nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A service will follow at the chapel at 10:30. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Congress Street, Portland.
