WELLS — An ambitious project years in the making is about to make it debut in Wells.

The Wells Public Library is inviting the public to attend the opening of a new wing and expansion project this coming weekend. A Grand Opening Dedication Ceremony will be held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the library, 1434 Post Road in Wells.

The addition of the new wing was a long standing project for town residents and was launched in 2008 with just a dream of what the expansion could be and what it could look like.

After four years of fundraising that included pledges, gifts, and in-kind donations, the Wells Library Board of Trustees and Friends of the Library were able to raise $1 million to make this expansion dream become a reality.

The 3,340-square-foot expansion is testament to all that hard work that is now ready to be fully enjoyed by town residents and visitors.

The new addition focuses predominantly on space for people.

There is a community program room with state-of-the-art presentation technology and seating for 80 that will have the capability to stream library events and lectures for people to view online.  This area features a separate entrance so it can be accessible after library hours for community or private events.

The expansion also includes a quiet study room where patrons can enjoy a conversation free room to work or reflect.

Additional space has been included for administrative areas and staff offices which will free up the smaller meeting room in the existing library for public use during library hours and allow for additional remodeling of the current staff room as a “Phase 2” portion of the expansion project.

Light refreshments and snacks will be given away during the grand opening events, along with adult and children’s activities.

For those attending the event, the library also will an area for new patrons who would like to become a member of the Wells Public Library.
