RICHMOND
The second-seeded Richmond Bobcats exploded for 12 runs in the second inning to sail past Temple Academy, 15-2 in five innings in a Class D South quarterfinal high school baseball match on Thursday.
Senior Zach Small highlighted the 12-run inning with a home run, while classmate Matt Rines added a triple in the frame. Small also picked up a triple, finishing with three RBIs. Rines, who also singled, knocked in a pair for the Bobcats (15-1).
Andrew Vachon pitched all five innings for Richmond, striking out six while walking none.
Richmond turns around and plays No. 3 Greenville today at 4:30 p.m. in the D South semifinals. The teams did not face each other this season.
MONMOUTH 4
LISBON 6
The second-seeded Greyhounds recovered from a 3-0 first-inning deficit to down the No. 7 Mustangs in Class C South quarterfinal play at Lisbon.
Lisbon, which improved to 14-3 and hosts Maranacook in a semifinal on Saturday at 11 a.m., scored two runs in the first and two more in the second for a 4-3 lead. A two-run fourth made for a 6-3 game.
Monmouth (13-5) put up its first three runs on one hit, two Lisbon errors and a passed ball.
Noah Austin singled and later scored to kick things off for the ’Hounds, and Nick Austin scored on a Jonah Sautter RBI single.
In the second, Nick Austin’s RBI single put Lisbon ahead to stay, and Lucas Francis made it a 5-3 game with a run-scoring double in the fourth. Francis scored on a Mustang miscue.
Francis tossed a complete game with five strikeouts, one walk, a hit batter and seven hits allowed.
Girls lacrosse
FREEPORT — Freeport darted out to a quick 6-0 lead and cruised to an 18-7 Class C quarterfinal win over fifthseeded Boothbay.
The Falcons, seeded fourth, improved to 9-4. Freeport advanced to next week’s semifinals against the winner of today’s North Yarmouth Academy at Lake Region contest.
Taylor Rinaldi had six goals in the win. Chloe Davidson chipped in three goals and three assists, with Margaret Perrotta and Taylor Dostie each adding two goals and one assist.
Sydney Meader paced Boothbay with five goals.
Camryn Pasqale turned away eight shots in the Freeport goal.
Softball
SOUTH PARIS — Haley Dillingham hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning and Lauren Merrill gave up one hit as second-seeded Oxford Hills shut out seventhseeded Mt. Ararat, 12-0, in a Class A North quarterfinal.
Merrill pitched a shutout and also had a double for the Vikings. Kenzie Kohkonen got Oxford Hills rolling in the first inning with a single that drove in two runs. The Vikings then received two RBI singles — from Brooke Carson and Kaisa Heikkinen — in the second.
Holly Temple had Mt. Ararat’s only hit as the Eagles finished the season with a 7-10 record.
