Portland police are investigating the a death of a man found outside on Somerset Street around noon Tuesday.
Police say the death is not considered to be suspicious, but did not provide further information.
Ryan Sharrow, a first-year student at Southern Maine Community College, said he found the man slumped over behind his car and tried to wake him.
“I thought he was asleep,” Sharrow said. But when the man didn’t respond, Sharrow called 911, and first responders attempted to revive him. “They tried to do CPR on him for quite some time,” he said.
Sharrow said he suspected the death may have been the result of a drug overdose because he found needles near the man. Police said they could not be confident in the cause of death without first performing an autopsy and toxicology tests.
