GIRLS
Grace Campanella, Kennebunk/Wells tennis: A sophomore at Kennebunk High who was seeded second, Campanella earned her first MPA singles tournament title Monday. Beginning Friday at Deering Oaks, she won five matches, all in straight sets, culminating in a 6-2, 6-4 victory over her sister, Rosemary, a senior at Wells. She lost a total of just nine games in her five matches.
Honorable Mention
Darcy Cochran, Cape Elizabeth track and field: A sophomore, Cochran was performer of the meet for track events at the Western Maine Conference championships in Naples. She set WMC records in the 100-meter hurdles (15.12 seconds) and 300 hurdles (45.12) and also won the 200 (26.64).
Emily Healy, Cape Elizabeth lacrosse: A senior, Healy scored five goals, including the winner with 2:29 left in the second overtime, to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 12-11 victory over Lake Region on Tuesday.
Cayleigh Morris, Massabesic softball: The senior pitcher allowed just six hits while striking out eight and also drove in the winning run in the sixth inning as the Mustangs defeated Gorham 2-1 to move into fourth place in Class A South.
BOYS
Nick Forester, Falmouth tennis: A junior seeded first, Forester earned his first MPA singles tournament title Monday inside the Racket & Fitness Center, where he defeated teammate and third seed Alex Klemperer 6-4, 6-1 in the finals. It marked the fifth straight-set victory for Forester, who lost a total of nine games. He was runner-up as a sophomore and a semifinalist as a freshman.
Honorable Mention
Sawyer Gagnon, Greely lacrosse: The Rangers’ sophomore goalie made 28 saves in an 8-7 overtime victory Thursday against Yarmouth, moving Greely (9-2) into first place in the Class B Heal point standings. Greely takes a six-game winning streak into Saturday’s regular-season finale against Cape Elizabeth.
Maxx St. John, Cheverus baseball: A senior, St. John powered Cheverus to three victories as the Stags (11-5) closed the regular season on an eight-game winning streak. He had nine hits and drove in four runs in wins over Scarborough (9-7), Marshwood (10-0) and Massabesic (11-0).
Travis Snyder, Thornton track and field: A junior, Snyder won three of his events at the SMAA championships to lead the Golden Trojans to the team championship. Snyder won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.32 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 41.45 and the pole vault with a height of 15 feet, 3 inches.
