TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh grade softball team picked up a 13-8 victory over rival Brunswick recently.
The Eagles improved to 5- 4.
Mt. Ararat jumped out to an early 2-1 lead. Mickelle Lafrance scored the first run of the game.
Brunswick tied the contest in the second inning and took the lead in the fourth inning, 3-2, before the Eagles started turning the abundance of hits into runs in the later stages of the game, scoring three in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 7-3 advantage.
Brunswick scored five runs in the sixth for an 8-7 lead, but the Eagles closed things out by scoring the final six runs, all coming in the home half of the sixth.
Mt. Ararat received keys hits from Hailey Nowak and Leah Hickman, capped off by a home run by Reagan Robertson. Solid defense sealed the deal for the Eagles with defensive plays by Alex Durant and Hannah Hawkes to shut down Brunswick in the final inning to end the game.
The Eagles were led offensively by Robertson, Durant and Angel Huntsman with three hits apiece. Huntsman also made a solid play behind the plate.
Robertson pitched a complete game for the Eagles, striking out six.
The Eagles’ final game will be at home today against Auburn.
