TOPSHAM — The
Brunswick Junior High School eighth-grade softball team earned a 7-4 “Battle of the Bridge” victory over Mt. Ararat on Tuesday.
The Eagles hit the board first with two runs in the first inning with a hit to center field by Jazzy Huntsman. Mt. Ararat continued to add to its total with runs in the second and third innings, putting the Eagles ahead, 4- 0.
The Brunswick bats struggled to get going against pitcher Huntsman and a solid Mt. Ararat defense. It took until the fourth inning when Kelsey Sullivan led off with a single, followed by a Riley McAllaster home run.
Mt. Ararat pitcher Megan Reed kept the Huskies off the board in the fifth, but Brunswick put up five runs in the sixth to pull out the victory. Key hits came from Morgan Foster, Sullivan, Abby Sharpe and Blake Austin, along with doubles from Mia Klimash and McAllaster.
Foster went the distance as the Brunswick pitcher, with nine strikeouts and three hits.
