WATERBORO — A child was injured and his mother arrested and charged with driving to endanger Wednesday after her car hit a tree on Crescent Drive in the Lake Arrowhead sector of North Waterboro.
The child, a 5-year-old, was hospitalized with significant but non life-threatening injuries, said York County Sheriff William King on Thursday morning.
Jacquelyn Griffin, 30, of Plainville, Massachusetts. remained at York County Jail in Alfred on Wednesday, held in lieu of $1,500 cash bail. She is charged with aggravated driving to endanger, a Class C felony.
King said that Griffin was leaving a lake house on Lake Arrowhead at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday with her two minor children when the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban she was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.
“(The) investigation indicated that it appears the injured child was not restrained in a car seat,” said King in a statement.
The other child in the vehicle, a 10-month-old, was not hurt.
If Griffin does not post bail, she is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Friday.
She is scheduled to appear at York County Superior Court in Alfred on Sept. 7.
