LIMERICK — A rededication of the refurbished Tibbetts Memorial Park and a Memorial Day Parade highlight commemorations here on Monday.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and make its way up Main Street to the memorial park.
The park was first dedicated in May 1945, and named in honor of Hermann K. Tibbetts Jr., who died at Pearl Harbor on Dec, 7, 1941, according to news accounts.
A revitalization committee has been working for the past couple of years to rejuvenate the the park, located at the corner of Main and Elm streets.
The monuments list the names of those in Limerick who gave their lives in all wars ad conflicts.
Organizers say World War II veteran Raymond Roy, along with Korean War veterans Bill Stitson, John A. Smith, Leo Allaire and Don Roy are scheduled to take part in the parade; veterans of all wars are encouraged to participate — uniforms not required.
U.S. Sen. Angus King is scheduled to be guest speaker, the Massabesic High School marching band will perform patriotic pieces and Massabesic Junior Naval ROTC will take part in the ceremony with an American flag that has been flown over Hickam Field in Hawaii.
The events are hosted by the White-Tibbetts Post American Legion and the Tibbetts park Revitalization Committee.
