GARDINER

Morse jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and pitcher Dory Kulis made the advantage hold up with six shutout innings as the Shipbuilders picked up a 5-2 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference high school softball win over Gardiner on Wednesday.

Morse improved to 10-4 with its sixth straight win and visits Brunswick today at 3 p.m.

Kulis struck out five and permitted just five hits. Gardiner scored its two runs in the seventh as Brooke Somes finished with two singles.

Marissa Parks clubbed a home run, double and single while driving in four runs in the win. Abby Carpenter had two hits, while Brook Kulis and Micailah Albertson each doubled. Dory Kulis chipped in a single.

MONMOUTH 13 WISCASSET 0

Emily Chasse had two singles and a double to lead the Mustangs to a Mountain Valley Conference win over the Wolverines in Wiscasset.

Abby Ferland had a single and a triple, while Abby Flanagan had four singles for Monmouth (9-5). Mariah Herr had a single and a double.

Leah Potter had two singles for Wiscasset (3-12), which hosts Carrabec on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Girls lacrosse

TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat made it two straight wins, rolling to a 12-10 victory over Boothbay to improve to 2-8.

The Eagles are seven points out of a playoff spot in Class B heading into Friday’s key road game at rival Brunswick (6 p.m.).

Fiona Hoang had five goals in the win, while Shannon Harty and Erin Harty both tallied two goals. Zoe McNally dished out five assists, with Jess Cloutier, Reese Turcotte and Maddie Daulerio picked up a goal each.

In goal, Casi Paetow had 10 saves.

Sydney Meader scored four goals for Boothbay.

Baseball

FREEPORT — Bryce Micklon homered and was 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored to lift Fryeburg Academy (8-6) over Freeport (10-4), 14-12, in eight innings in a WMC matchup.

Dawson Jones added two hits and three RBIs for the Raiders.

Shea Wagner and Toby Holt homered for Freeport. Wagner went 4 for 6 with four runs and three RBIs, while Holt had three RBIs and two runs.

Freeport hosts Gray-New Gloucester on Friday at 4 p.m.

MORSE 2 GARDINER 3

The host Tigers received a solid start from Alic Shorey for a KVAC win over the Shipbuilders.

Morse (5-9) has dropped three straight heading into today’s road game against Brunswick (3 p.m.).

Shorey struck out four and walked one over six innings.

Jackson Walker pitched well for Morse, going the distance on nine strikeouts. He allowed just three hits and none of the runs were earned.

Asa Hodgdon doubled, tripled, scored a run and drove in one for the Shipbuilders.

Cole Lawrence had an RBI single for the Tigers.
