Saying I Love You
Hanging on the wall in my house is a little framed picture which was passed on to me by my mother-in-law. It is yellowed with age, and on it is printed “Love to Mother,” followed by these words. “Little words that go to say, ‘I love you’ are the best. No others can be found today that better stood the test.” Why do we hesitate to say “I love you” to those we care about? Perhaps we find it embarrassing or unnecessary, because, after all, our families and bosom pals know we love them. We show it forth in numerous ways, so why do we have to say it? But it does us good to say it or hear it said to us from time to time. Mother’s Day will be here in a couple of days, and mothers everywhere will be showered with cards and flowers, candy, and dinner invitations, but let’s not leave it up to Hallmark to express our feelings for our mothers who have loved us unconditionally. Let’s remember to give voice to those three precious little words. They may know we love them, but let’s tell them anyway.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
