According to a press release from the Old Orchard Beach Police Department, officers responded to the Family Dollar Store at 8 Heath St. at 1:16 p.m. Saturday for a report of a stabbing.
Police said that the call was received through the 911 emergency line and upon their arrival at the scene, officers found a 23-year-old man from Lewiston who had suffered a severe laceration to the leg.
Officers also discovered that a 60-year-old man from Milton, Massachusetts, had sustained lacerations to his body during the incident.
An initial investigation by police showed that an altercation between the two injured men took place while they were inside the store.
“Investigators are currently gathering information to determine what occurred at the store and what caused the altercation between the males,” police wrote in the press release. “The dispute appears to be isolated between the involved parties at this time. The injuries to both involved males are believed to have been caused by the same knife during the incident.”
Police say it’s unlikely the men involved knew each other prior to the incident.
Both injured men were taken to different hospitals and neither wound is considered life threatening.
The names of the individuals involved are not being released by Old Orchard Beach Police and an investigation into the incident continued on Monday.
