Sydney Hatch drove in Brooklyn Scott in with a base hit as Hampden Academy escaped with an 8-7 extra-inning win over Brunswick in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference high school softball action on Monday.

Hampden Academy built a 7-5 advantage in the visiting half of the seventh inning before the Dragons rallied to tie the game on a close play at home plate.

Shea Sullivan reached first on a dropped fly ball to right field and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After a fly out, Sabrina Armstrong walked. Both Sullivan and Armstrong advanced on another wild pitch. With two outs Bailey Hartill delivered a clutch base hit to left field, plating Sullivan. Armstrong was initially ruled out at home plate on the play, but the umpire ruled catcher’s obstruction, giving Brunswick a 7-7 tie with Hartill advancing to second base on the throw home.

Hartill moved up to third base on a pass ball before Autumn Thoits connected on a solid ground ball that the Mustangs snagged for the final out, sending the game into extra innings.
